Late Fee Removed for Individual Time Trial!

Joel Thompson and Nippy Feldhake have removed the late fee. If you were charged the $10 late fee or $5 for juniors then you will be refunded the late fee when you pick up your number. We are sorry for any ill feeling the late fee has caused and we hope you will pass the word on to your teammates.  It was not our intention to upset anyone. We want to put on a high quality race.  Putting on a race takes a lot of time and energy and there are many hidden cost one would not know if you have not been a race director.

Nippy has put on Mt. Graham for the past 9 years and has lost $300 to $600 8 of the 9 years. It is hard to make a profit on cycling races. The lost came out of his pocket. When Nippy were going over the fee I checked what the road race was going to charge but their web page was not up and running. I when off last year expenses i. e. jerseys, official fee, permits fees, port-a-johns, USA cycling fees, trophies, etc.

We understand the comments in the AZCycling forum and have taken it to heart.  We hope this change will dissipate any ill feeling for Southwest Hand Cycling Team and foster good will.  Please will come out and race this year or next year.

Signed Joel and Nippy

Thank you to our own Bradley O’Hearne and Notre Dame Prep, Jason Wreath for being the first to purchase a Road ID and help benefit the White Mountain Road Club.

ACCIDENTS DO HAPPEN!! Each year, over 450,000 of us are taken to hospitals unconscious and without Identification. If you experience an unexpected injury or sudden illness, when not at home, don’t you want those who come to your aid to have quick easy access to YOUR IDENTITY? Road ID not only provides safety and peace of mind for you and your loved ones, but Road ID can prevent serious delays in medical treatment and possibly even save your life.

Silent Sundays at South Mountain Park

Phoenix Parks Dept has scheduled a “Silent Sunday” car-free day at South Mountain once a month through the end of the year on the following dates; May 27, June 24, July 22, Aug 26, Sept 23, Oct 28, Nov 18, Dec 23. The more cyclists who show up the more likely they will continue.

For those of you who do not know, Silent Sunday is where personal vehicles will not be allowed on the road past the Activity Complex. This will give the wildlife a break from the fumes and traffic and will give people the chance to enjoy the preserve without the noise or traffic from the road. More information can be found here http://phoenix.gov/parks/hikesoth.html

If you have any questions or comments you can feel free to e-mail or call the phone number listed below.

Sincerely,

Enjoy the beauty of the Sonoran Desert in spring as you ride one of three new routes designed to accommodate and challenge all levels of cycling abilities.

The Tour de Cure is for EVERYONE! Riders of all athletic abilities are invited to raise funds and ride to fight the epidemic of diabetes. Whether you are in training for a big ride or riding in your first organized cycling event, we have a ride for you.

The 12-mile route is a family and novice-friendly ride through mostly quiet, residential communities in North Phoenix.

The 32-mile and Metric Century routes both follow the 12-mile route before heading north on roads that will take you away from everyday traffic.

The Metric Century will pass through the beautiful communities of Anthem, New River and Desert Hills, and Cave Creek Recreation Area.

All routes were created by experienced cyclists to provide a safe and memorable riding experience for all participants.

Riders will be supported by an enthusiastic team of volunteers at rest stops every 8 – 10 miles, featuring an array of rider-friendly food and beverages, and SAG (Support and Gear) vehicles along the routes.

At the Finish Line, our celebration will feature entertainment from a DJ and live band, exhibits, massages, and lunch, provided by Sweet Tomatoes and other food sponsors.
