2012 AZ State Road Race

Hello and BIG THANKS to all WMRC Volunteers and friends for helping to promote the 2012 AZ State Road Race April 21!!

Everyone set aside the fond memories from last year, took their weekend off, stayed overnight in Wickenburg, drove up in the wee hours – and then spent the day providing the bicycle racing community the opportunity to compete and race their bicycles.

WMRC is one of the few clubs that put forth the effort to promote a road race – and the State Road Race at that!!

Many emails have been received complimenting WMRC and its volunteers for their support and enthusiam.

Events do not happen without volunteers – and WMRC & friends are the best!

Cheer and Thanks – Your WMRC eBoard

Volunteers needed for the 2012 State Championship RR!

Hello fellow club members,

April 21st is the date set for the 2012 State Championship Road Race for Arizona, and will once again be hosted in Hillside by none other than – you guessed it – WMRC, the backbone of cycling in Arizona!

To pull this off, we need your help. There are a number of different positions available, including registration, course marshals, feed zone, follow-vehicles, etc. We will be posting the specifics in due course, so please plan to come out and volunteer. You can even still race it!

Thanks in advance,

Joe Statt

VO2 Max and/or Power Testing

White Mountian Road Club received the following inquiry from John Camoriano, a physician at Mayo Clinic as he and his colleagues are interested in conducting a study in cyclists on the effect of statins (a class of cholesterol-lowering medication) on fitness. Please contact John directly if you are interested.

Dear Fellow Bikers

My colleagues at Mayo in the cardiology department are interested in studying the effects of a cholesterol-lowering medication class, the statins on muscle strength in cyclists. We are in the preliminary stages of trying to find out the potential numbers of cyclists out there, male or female, who are already on a statin drug like lipitor, Vytorin, crestor, etc.

If there are enough interested people who cycle and are on a statin drug we would propose that they come to Mayo for VO2 max and/or power testing for at least 2 tests; one test on the statin and one test off of the statin.
The potential benefits to the cyclists would be potentially free lab tests and strength and/or V02 max testing as well as the ability to participate in a trial that could benefit patients by helping to define what effects, if any, that statins may have on muscle.

If you are interested in being placed on a contact list for this study AND you are on or about to be place on a statin drug then please contact me me at the number or emails below.

Thanks!
